Introducing Mozart is a piano literature collection designed to present students to their first works by the composer, while also exploring his illustrated biography. The intention of this publication is to aid both teacher and student through the difficult transition from method materials to repertoire. These pieces have been carefully selected so that they are accessible to students in an early stage of development, thus better preparing them for the study of Mozart's major works, such as the sonatas, variations, and concertos.

This collection has been arranged chronologically. By connecting piano literature with music history, the student will become aware of the composer's own struggles, interests, and anecdotes. This will allow the student to identify with the music in a uniquely personal way as opposed to studying the literature alone.

The compositions were selected based on their pedagogical value, compiled mainly from two of Mozart’s early collections: Nannerl’s Music Book and The London Sketchbook, in addition to several miscellaneous later works. The pieces in this edition were studied carefully and are based on Urtext scores for accuracy. In most of his original works, Mozart included only ornaments, a very few articulation markings, and slurs. Because of the educational purpose of this book, recommended slurs, fingerings, dynamics, and metronome markings have been added throughout. Careful effort has been made to remain respectful to the composer’s original intentions.

A Guide to Playing Mozart has been included at the end of the book. Here a comprehensive yet straightforward explanation has been given to all stylistic and performance questions, such as dynamics, tempo, and ornamentation. Realizations have been notated throughout the book every time an ornament appears for the first time, with the exception of grace notes. This is to facilitate learning and guide interpretation. Alternate resolutions and an ornament table have also been included.
