Since 2005, the studio has been serving the South Carolina Upstate area, teaching students of all ages and levels. Although the emphasis is on classical music and technique, the curriculum is individualized and geared to match each student’s preferences and strengths. The studio focuses on discovery and mastery of the piano through creative fun and exploration, as well as the pursuit of artistry and self-expression through music.
What We Do at the studio
We are active members of MTNA and the National Federation of Music Clubs, Easley Chapter.
Selected students participate at the NFMC auditions and Festivals Program, as well as scholarship competitions.
Our students are often selected as representatives to perform at the NFMC State Convention.
The school year culminates with a formal Spring Recital and Award Ceremony in which students showcase their progress and celebrate their accomplishments.
Rehearsals and master classes are scheduled every semester in preparation for performances, college auditions, MTNA, and Festival participation. The special classes allow students to perform in front of their peers as a rehearsal for the big event. Moreover, students learn to listen and to give each other constructive criticism as they collaborate to improve each other’s interpretations.
The Fall semester ends with a less formal Christmas Piano Party or our Concert for a Cause, a studio effort to collect funds for the nonprofits AIM and Education = Hope.
Experience a Lesson
Contact me anytime to schedule a sample lesson. I believe that learning the piano is enjoyable, challenging, meditational, and deeply rewarding, all at the same time! Therefore, these are some of the things that you can expect during a lesson:
Lots of duets and ensemble playing!
I believe that ensemble playing is crucial to one’s development as a well-rounded musician. Moreover, making music together is one of the most satisfying ways to learn a piece.Practical harmony, theory, and composition drills
Understanding theory and developing the ability to use it at the keyboard will open the door
to creativity and deeper understanding at the piano.Sight reading is a top priority!
We sight read and practice reading every day, with the goal of having a reading level that is very close to your performance level. Mastering sight reading opens up the world of music and makes learning piano a practical skill that you can keep and truly enjoy for life.We are always working on artistry and expression.
Music is one of the most intimate forms of expression. I believe that music is an art, and piano is the tool that we use to create something unique, beautiful, and meaningful. In the process, we grow as human beings, participate in a soothing activity, and learn to share our emotions and art with others through performance and master class opportunities. We play many, many games with drums!
I believe that rhythm development is a priority, but I also admit that it is just fun to play drum ensembles and drills with the kids. I even have a drum set at the studio! One must practice all of those crazy rhythms needed to play the repertoire!I play piano with you all the time!
I believe demonstration is vital for the understanding of tone quality, style, and technique. And my fingers just can’t help it sometimes!
